So the Xbox One X just came out recently, and I’m still not the least bit interested in getting an Xbox. I already own a PS4 Pro and a gaming computer so I find that owning another console is just like bringing some extra, useless baggage. I’m much more interested in getting a Nintendo Switch than an Xbox One for very obvious reasons.

True the Xbox might have some great racing games and maybe first-person shooters but there is so much more the PS4 can offer me that Xbox can’t. For the 1st reason and probably the biggest and most obvious of them all is the lack of exclusives in the Xbox and the mountain level of a difference in the PS4. There’s really no contest here especially with most of this years game of the year candidates being PS4 exclusives. The only exclusive the Xbox has me interested in is Sea of Thieves. It may also have PUBG but it’s pretty clear it’s only a “time exclusive” game for the console.

The 2nd reason is related to the 1st reason and it is about the Xbox Play Anywhere Program. In order for me to get the Xbox exclusives I could just buy the games through the Windows Store and I can already play them on my computer. It’s also better if the game is FPS since I can use the mouse and keyboard and if I ever need a controller, I can always use my PS4’s controller to play them.

The 3rd reason where Xbox failed to impress me is their take on Augmented Reality. When they showed it at E3 2015 where they showcased playing Minecraft using Hololens. They actually got my attention with that but 2 E3s later and still no new about it which makes it look like the project is frozen at the moment.

The 4th reason would be you can’t play games on the Xbox without having to go through updates. Some game like with Halo 5 (with the physical disc by the way) had the update being around 50GB! What kind of game has that kind of update? Maybe for FFXV with the season pass but for Halo 5, it is not worth it.

The 5th reason would have to be that most of the games require multiplayer, so you almost always need to stay online. This is just bad for those countries whose ISPs are pretty much screwing everyone everyday or for those places where they just don’t have any available internet connection. It also doesn’t help that the Xbox would need an update every now and then or else the Xbox won’t let you play anything at all.

The 6th reason is that Microsoft pretty much left a big impression on me early this year, a bad kind. They cancelled Scalebound which aside from Sea of Thieves, is the only other interesting game that is exclusive to Microsoft. The Xbox does have some awesome 4K HDR and more going for it but having backwards compatibility is always going to be a plus in my book. But I don’t need to have the backwards compatibility ’cause I can always just plug in my PS2, PS1, and I even have my PS3 ready at all times.

The 7th reason is similar to the 1st reason and that is that the Xbox does not have much in terms of games from Japan especially JRPGs which is my favorite genre of all. It’s understandable since it is a console for the west.

The 8th and final reason isn’t really much but I feel that it is still worth mentioning. It is the fact that Microsoft doesn’t really market the console in certain regions. Let’s face it, marketing for the Xbox has been bad in recent years and even more so this year. No wonder they’re too scared to show their number of consoles shipped this generation since they aren’t even trying to sell them to a few people that might actually be interested in them out in the big world.

The Xbox One isn’t so bad as a game console but there’s just so many ongoing problems going for it that it can make you think thrice or more about buying one anytime soon. 4K gaming may be tempting but graphics will never be enough to justify a good gaming experience unless it’s VR then it can be a big factor. The Xbox One just doesn’t cut it for me so until they somehow wow me with their 9th generation console then I wouldn’t even bother my precious brain cells till then.

If it wasn’t for Gears of War, Halo and backwards compatibility I would sell mine. I own the GOW edition Xbox One, PS4 Pro and a Switch. It was cumbersome and uncomfortable playing VR on my PS so recently sold it. The Switch is in a league all it’s own. Other than PS4 specific games like The Last of Us and the controller build [i like the ps4 better], I think both consoles are closely tied.

    • I know what you mean, I’ve got a PS4 Pro and a Switch (totally love that) but I did just buy an Xbox One X. Two simple reasons, first it gives me something my Pro doesn’t, a UHD Blu-Ray player which I was going to buy anyway, I’ve already got a stunning 4K TV, and the X (or S) are the best bang for your buck UHD players out there.

Secondly, perhaps surprisingly to some, the games. The Xbox has some franchises I love, Gears, Forza, Halo and I’m all about the games. I don’t really care much about the console wars or system loyalty, lot of nonsense to me. It’s all about games and as long as the three big players have exclusives I want I’ll continue to buy them.

Maybe if had a gaming PC I’d feel differently about the Xbox, but I got out of that bottomless money sucking pit a few years ago.

I can see me actually buying more games for the X than the Pro though. Sony has some utterly amazing exclusive content that ensures I’ll keep giving them my money. But if third party games continue along like Assassins then I’ll be buying them on the X, it really is a more capable system for 4K and/or 60fps.

This is a stupid slander article. We have seen these types of reasonings for the last 3-4 years. He is completely dismissive about all of the positives of the X1/X1X like 4k blurayer, the best grphics and performance at a $500 price tag and Iguess he plans on having 1080p TV forever. Then all of the (supposed negatives) are deal breakers to the highest degree.

If you like FPS TPS and racing games you should have a Xbox One. This “lack of exclusives” is BS… if you are new to the platform you have over 3-4 years of exclusives at your on hand. The argument barely works if you have had a Xbox One played the games and are looking for a reason to upgrade and better graphics and performance isn’t enough of a reason. Xbox One games have better eco systems Halo 5 still popping and growing, Gears 4 still going strong, Forza games still have giant communities playing. Its not like you would buy the console and be lonely not knowing what to do next.

And if you look at Ps4 through the same lenses Ps4 has had like 2 major exclusive this years, Nioh PC, Nier Automata PC, and I think Gravity Rush 2 is on PC as well. That would leave Horizon and GT Sport. Xbox already has 3 major exclusives set for the first half of next year. Dud e is holding on to Scalebounds cancellation when there are plenty of Ps4 games that have announced but not seen the day of light but the Media just forgets about them.

MS has even really started showing off the VR and AR stuff that’s some made up hate.

In truth I don’t think you need to really compare the Ps4 and X1. They are both solid platforms and deliver their own experiences. If you have one and not the other you are missing out ****Period***

I cant live without my Halo and Gears….. if you cant live without your Uncharted and God of War that fine too butI am not going to be dismissive about what the other systems actually deliver.

3 solid reasons why the exclusives argument is pure bs:

    1) Only 2-5% of PS4 owners actually buy PS4 exclusives
    2) The PS4 had no exclusives for almost 2 years while the Xb1 had several but was still outsold 2:1
    3) The PS3 had no exclusives for 18 months after launch but still managed great sales regardless

I’m tired of all the bull$hit being spread by fanboys and shill sites we as gamers need to all stand up tall and call all these propagandists out!

You forget that the Xbox One controller lacks gyro and accelerometer which is fantastic to use as a steering wheel (also has speaker and touchpad). However I do like the AA batteries. Xbox One dashboard still bombarded with very annoying ads and despite the latest changes the layout is still abysmal.

Xbox One is a console designed for US consumers, and also has generally reasonable sales in Canada, UK, Australia. Outside of that bubble, the PS4 rules. The PS4 is definitely the more international console, which is clearly evident in the games and the social aspect.

Because of augmented reality… a demo swayed you?? Guess ps4 virtual reality floats your boat. To each his own!!

Sorry, but this is a really stupid idea for an article dude.

You are just a fanboy and that is the only reason you wont get an XBOX even if it will be greatest thing in the world, you just can’t bring yourself to do it, as you said you have the PS1/2/3 even though xbox 360 was much better than the PS3 and there is nothing you can argue about that…
