Microsoft has advertised Project Scorpio way ahead before PS4 Pro was announced at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo last June 2016 – it’s slated to have a 2017 launch year. Project Scorpio’s official website marked that Project Scorpio will be “the most powerful console ever” to hit this mid-generation upgrade, and to be able to run 4K natively with its games. There is no doubt that Microsoft’s Project Scorpio has about 6TFLOPS integrated with its GPU – that’s almost twice what the PS4 Pro currently has – and that Microsoft’s console will most likely run its games natively on 4K.

All of us will see the most graphical demanding games on the Scorpio with rich visuals and taking advantage of 4K natively. Alongside with its graphical upgrade is the overall major improvement on its hardware performance. PS4 Pro did give a considerable amount of performance and visual upgrade but it did have struggles on certain games to hit that sweet spot of both 30FPS and 60FPS on 4K – a great example of that is The Last of Us Remastered which runs on native 4K. Just to give out a very important note, not all games on PS4 Pro runs at native 4K, newer games like Final Fantasy XV and The Last Guardian are upscaled to 4K – this is because PS4 Pro only has 4.20 TFLOPS.

Now, let’s see this in a bigger picture. Project Scorpio is going to launch in late 2017, and Microsoft’s console will achieve the title of “true 4K console” or “the most powerful console ever” once Scorpio is out. But does Microsoft have the first-party games to make their “true” 4K console a great choice for gamers next year? No. Their list of upcoming games in 2017 is not that particularly strong compared to Sony’s lineup.

Recently at Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2016 event, it showcased a lot of great titles coming in 2017. We have the most highly-anticipated comeback of Crash Bandicoot, WipeOut, Final Fantasy XII, and PaRappa the Rapper. Aside from PS1 classics coming to PS4, Sony’s Horizon: Zero Dawn is going to be released this February 2017, and here are some more games releasing next year on the PS4:

  • Gravity Rush 2 – January 20, 2017
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue – January 24, 2017
  • Digimon World: Next Order – January 31, 2017
  • Nioh – February 9, 2017
  • Nier: Automata – March 7, 2017 (with PC version coming TBA 2017)
  • Persona 5 – April 4, 2017

We also have Ace Combat 7, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Gran Turismo Sport, and some others that would likely have a 2017 release date.

If you look at the list of upcoming games in 2017 for Xbox One, most of them are multi-platform titles, and that Scalebound and Halo Wars 2 are the only first-party titles I’m excited for on the Xbox One. We can take the possibility that Microsoft might have a lot of surprises this E3 2017, but looking at Sony’s lineup, it’s way stronger than Microsoft’s first-party games in 2017.

Even if Sony did not opt to manufacture a powerful console mid-refresh, they rather focused on supporting their first-party developers to make games exclusively for their consumers.

In the end, getting Project Scorpio wouldn’t be a bad choice, if you opt to buy the console, then you better stick to it. If your preferred brand is Microsoft and not Sony, then get Project Scorpio. You have a 4K TV and want to experience real native 4K than upscaled 4K? Then get Project Scorpio. If you can afford both PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio and have the cash to burn, then that’s great!

I want to let everyone who reads this article know that I am not biased towards Sony or even a PS4 fanboy. I don’t have preferences on brands; there are games that I love on the Xbox One platform – Halo 5, Gears 4, Forza 3, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive. As long as the platform holds a great library of exclusive games, then I’m down for it.

Are you getting Project Scorpio next year? Let me know in the comments!

Horizon Zero Dawn is the only game that even comes close to anything I would purchase and play.

Too many titles coming for XBox One that I will be buying for sure:
    Crackdown 3
    Sea of Thieves
    Scalebound
    Halo Wars 2
    State of Decay 2
    Astroneer
And of course… Voodoo Vince: Remastered

But until they come out I will surely still be playing a lot of Dead Rising 4, Halo 5, Gears 4, and the ARK Preview. Until of course the Conan Exiles becomes available on the Preview program!

And when Scorpio comes out I will give my XBox One S to my son and I will buy it. And enjoy all the crossplatform games at the best console experience a person can have this generation. 😀

    • Bobby Griffin

      Well put

      • Bilal Prince-Ali

at least 3 of those games on the list arent even guaranteed to come out in 2017…. and you may not care about those games but theres millions of us that do… ONTOP of all the games we have got to play already lool

        • BillyHoWCR

All are projected 2017 releases. Just as are many titles he listed for PS are subject to be pushed back and yet were still listed based on projected release date.

And don’t start listing all the “ONTOP of all the games we have to play already” as any kind of measure. I just looked at my latest ‘Month in Review’ of my game activity and it shows over 200 games played. Pretty sure I might be above average on that count but not like I don’t have plenty of options to choose from. On top of all the BC titles that can be played without needing to purchase them again.

I think you are trying too hard.

    • Ryo Shenmue

Xbox One has the worst lineup in videogames history and PS4 one of the best of all time, it’s that simple. Persona 5 alone is worth every other game coming out in 2017(it’s one of the greatest games ever made, period). The article also left out Yakuza Zero and Kiwami plus Tales of Berseria, Valkyria Azure Revolution, Kingdom Hearts Collection, The Crash Bandicoot Remake Collection, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the phenomenal Wild, which is one of the most innovative games of the past 15 years, God of War(which according to strong rumors is going to come out in spring/summer), Ni No Kuni 2 AND Spiderman, which Insomniac hopes to release around the time the new movie comes out, so probably in september.

Looking at official numbers, currently PS4 has 63 more exclusives than X1 counting both retail and digital only games, which makes it one of the biggest gaps between consoles in every generation ever.

      • William Ramos

Thats your opinion not facts. I rather play xbox games over the empty ps games.

I got to tired of those titles.

      • BillyHoWCR

Again, you listed more games which of that list maybe Yakuzo Zero would peek an interest in me? Others really aren’t anything I would be eager to purchase or play. Obviously we have different tastes in games.

And the idea average player base (talking average here) will own less than 10 games for a system in a given year is the point where quality over quantity is what really matters to many. Crossplatform games will still be the games that dominate the playing field and then people will likely find an exclusive that will draw their interest and a purchase.

Point is I have the ability to play all BC titles available to me (without having to purchase them again) Once I get a free game on XBL Gold I get to keep it, even if I choose to end Gold subscription. And the best aspect of my gaming experience is the Preview games where I can play games before they get releaed to the masses. I am a big Beta fan and enjoy the option to try the games as they are being developed.

And truthfully I expect Conan Exile to rule my gaming time come next spring.

Sony likes to tout games way before they come out and MS less so. We will still see more MS made games coming on the list even in 2017 while Sony will yet again be touting the option to wait for their greatness.

We can all Fanboy out all we want… but it really matters little to me what you buy. Enjoy your games that I find boring and I will enjoy my games that you find yourself not wanting to play.

  • Tobias Spears

PS4 is the best console this generation

    • Demetre M

      Lmfao not

      • Tobias Spears

It’s okay to be in denial 😂😂😅😅

    • Bobby Griffin

Lol you should do stand up

    • PEDROVNONE

After many delayed games for 2017 i would never say that.

      fan boy, open your eyes.

  • Charles Buchanan

This needs to be edited….Scorpio has about 6TFLOPS integrated with its GPU – that’s almost twice what the PS4 Pro currently has. From 4.2 to 6 is not twice…not even almost.

    • Lexuzze Tablante

      Hi Charles,

Thank you for the note, that’s why I added “almost twice” because it’s not exactly twice.

      Best,
      Lexuzze

  • spideynut71

You have no clue what MS have set to be revealed next year, and during E3 , so your opinion doesn’t matter.

  • WryMouthX

Dumb ass article. Do you really think MS disclosed all their games for 2017?

  • Demetre M

Lmfao are you for real? There some good PS4 games coming but still won’t hold up against ProjectScorpio line of 4K native games 60fps , You failed to mention all other Xbox exclusives like StateofDecay2 and the rest of them plus ones that haven’t been revealed don’t get too cocky

That’s your Opinions but you are so far from the truth , as every year Xbox kills Playstation during christmas holiday sales Oh looky another weak line up for Sony exclusives for the holidays Umm that’s nothing new oh my lol

  • Bobby Griffin

This must be a joke it’s not one game on that Sony list that I want. I’m not saying they are bad but those are Japanese niche games that most people don’t care about. How bout this list for xbox Crackdown 3, Halo wars 2 , Sea of thieves, Forza Motosport , Cup head ,and Scalebound.

    • Lexuzze Tablante

Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Horizon: Zero Dawn are not Japanese niche games.

      • BillyHoWCR

Look at the 6 titles you actually highlighted in list form. They basically are Japanese Niche. (not sure why you chose to seperate the games you are talking about in such an odd manner in the article? You are all over the place with your writting. Why?)

        • Lexuzze Tablante

The list has set release dates. The whole point are the games themselves, not being Japanese niche titles.

I do appreciate pointing that out though, but still, the PS4 has the strongest lineup of games coming in 2017. 🙂

          • BillyHoWCR

The point is that the 6 titles listed (not the 3 that you mentioned in comment to him) are what many of us would call Japanese Niche.

            Gravity Rush 2
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
            Digimon World: Next Order
            Nioh
            Nier: Automata
            Persona 5

All being Japanese Developers that have a very strong Japanese Niche Vibe to them. Just because one or two might have a following outside of Japan does not rule them out of being Japanese Niche.

Agree to disagree but those of us (yes I would have to include myself) that don’t like any of those titles really for the most part simply because we feel they are Japanese Niche. Maybe it is hard for you to see because you like them? Or maybe because you simply have a different determination of what Japanese Niche is for you?

    • Bilal Prince-Ali

you’re a fool looool… so you wanna include games possibly coming to xbox in 2017 but not do the same for PS4 because it’d be too unfair lool

    • Mohammed Allha

Ff7 remake and nioh and kingdom hearts 2.8 horizon these games aren’t niche at all

      • William Ramos

They are niche titles…maybe horizon might be okay.

  • stamps1646

Below, Ashen, Cuphead, Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Halo Wars 2, State of Decay 2, Voodoo Vince, Gigantic, Thimbleweed and Pit People. Looks like a solid list of titles on Xbox next year to me. I’m pretty excited for a lot of the Sony games coming out next year, but I think MS is going to be just fine. =)

  • BelAirBoss

My ps4 list of must buy exclusives for 2017
    Horizon Zero Dawn
    Nier:Automata
    Persona 5
    Gran Turismo Sport
    What Remains of Edith Finch
    Wild
    Hellblade
    Ni No Kuni II
    Uncharted:The Lost Legacy

My ps4 list of must buy exclusive games that may release in 2017, but more likely 2018, and two in 2019
    God of War
    Detroit:Become Human
    Days Gone
    Death Stranding
    Spider-Man
The Last of Us Part II

My list of xbox must buy games for 2017
    Crackdown
    Below
    Cuphead

This is by no means a comprehensive list, merely my personal preference as to what games are certain buys at this point for me going forward. You see the difference. It is very clear, if you have eyes to see, that is.

    • Mohammed Allha

How about tales of bersiria and gravity rush 2؟؟

  • drjonesjnr

    Project what?

  • PEDROVNONE

Only lies on this page news.

Sony didn’t focus on games, they only have more games for the next year because of the many delays in 2016.

    • Tobias Spears

      They always say that 😅😅😂

  • spideynut71

You have no clue what MS have set to be revealed next year, and during E3 , so your opinion is invalid.

    • Tobias Spears

      They always say that 😅😅😅

  • BillyHoWCR

Also want to point out this part:

“Even if Sony did not opt to manufacture a powerful console mid-refresh, they rather focused on supporting their first-party developers to make games exclusively for their consumers.”

The point is Sony did try and do a powerful console mid-refresh… and they really have touted the Pro directly as the most powerful console on the market now. (though some hiccups are arising with the performance of some games played on it)

To imagine otherwise is really disingenuous.

And if you are going to state you are not a Fanboy then don’t write as if you are. You can’t simply throw down titles for Sony side and then remark on just 2 titles that might interest you on MS side. An article is not about your personal opinion but a relative source for the masses. Think about that next time you create a piece for print. Currently you are writing for the Sony Fanboy base more so than not. Which is ok if you want to go that route, but don’t tout the article does not reflect that when it actually does.

    • Lexuzze Tablante

Thank you for your insight though, but this is not an “article” to put out objective views, but an opinion piece. It’s purely subjective. I do get your point, but pointing this out is purely invalid. All of us are entitled with our own opinion, and this is how I view the current situation for 2017. I don’t expect everyone to agree.

I do appreciate your feedback, but surely, we do not do this on “articles”, just on opinion pieces.

Thank you. And upvoted your comment. 😉

P.S: Kindly read the full article, and check the disclaimer: [This opinion piece written by the author does not represent the whole team of Sirus Gaming.] Thanks!

      • BillyHoWCR

I think you are missing the point. “You” stated “I want to let everyone who reads this article know that I am not biased towards Sony or even a PS4 fanboy.” and yet the article/opinion piece is written directly in the manner of such a person that IS biased. I am not saying you ARE biased. I am stating the article/opinion piece is written in such a way.

You could have stated the same premise with adding more perspective on what is actually offered by MS in counter to your own perception of what is/or is not a game that interests you.

That is the ability of a writer to speak his opinion but with enough decorum to allow the entire scene to be viewed without readers simply seeing the one sided opinion.

I read the disclaimer but actually chuckled when I noticed your “Editor-in-Chief” label. Basically invalidating the disclaimer because of the fact the boss really does echo the mindset of the team as a whole. (regardless if you think different on the subject, sorry.)

I really do have issue with small gaming sights that have Chief Editors/Bosses that right opinion pieces and articles for their own web sight and then claim some kind of non-bias opinion that doesn’t represent their site. I will use the word disingenuous again here. Sorry but you (and others) should make a decision to be one or the other. For the sake of journalism. 😉

        Best,
        Ho
(I just wanted to be able to type Best Ho…. ha)
